Case Study 1:

Apple iMac Repartition That Has Gone Wrong

Issue

Client decided to repartition his hard drive so that he could free up more space on his D Drive (data partition) by taking some space from the C Drive (operating system). Client used partition magic to change partition sizes, it completed without any problems and reported it was a success. When client started the iMac he got the message ‘Unmounting disks’. This message stayed on the monitor for about 2 hours and client decided to reboot iMac. When client rebooted the iMac he is now getting question mark icon.

Our Solution

We diagnosed that there was read/write issues with the hard drive. We recommended a read/write head swap on the hard drive. We completed a read/write head swap and imaged all sectors on hard drive. We backed up data to data dvd and sent back to client within 72 hours.

* If you are getting a question mark when you boot up your Mac it means the hard drive is not getting recognised, we have 15 years experience of working with failed Mac hard drives.

Case Study 2:

Synology DiskStation Bad Sectors

Issue

Client had a Synology DiskStation which stated that it needed to be formatted. Client tried to run a data recovery software against the Synology DiskStation but could not recover any data from the Synology DiskStation. When client tries to connect to Synology DiskStation through disk management utility in Windows it reported an I/O error.

Our Solution

We received in Synology DiskStation and diagnosed that the Synology DiskStation was a Raid 5 system with 4 disks. The 1st disk had a software failure and thus was the reason why the system would not connect to any computers. We removed the 4 disks and imaged all sectors on disks and processed the Raid dataset for a full recovery. We completed this job within 2 days.

Case Study 3:

Nine Failed Rebuilds on a IBM X346 Server

Issue

Client had an IBM X346 Server which had 6 x 73GB SCSI hard drives. One of the hard drives failed and systen would not boot up. The client booted server using the diagnostic cd software and said that system was fine. Client tried to rebuild the system with a new hard disk that was same model and same capacity as new drive. The rebuild seemed to work but when system completed the rebuild process it would not boot up. Client run the rebuild process again and again and again. Our client run the rebuild for 9 times before giving up and eventually contacted us.

Our Solution

We received in the 6 original scsi hard drives & one replacement scsi drive and imaged all good drives. We diagnosed the failed scsi drive had a read/write head failure. We completed a read/write head swap on the scsi hard drive and imaged all sectors on disk. We recompiled and recoded the data on the disks to recover 90% of the data.

* We are the only UK data recovery company that has coding data recovery engineers that specialise in recoding rebuilt data.
